Thanks to an individual donation, Con or Bust has a free attending membership to LoneStarCon 3, this year’s WorldCon (August 29-September 2, San Antonio, Texas), available for transfer to a fan of color/non-white fan.
If you’re a fan of color/non-white fan who’s been thinking about going to WorldCon but didn’t get a membership yet, this is for you! The membership is available first-come first-served through July 10; request it at this Google Docs form.
Note: voting rights have already been exercised.
Thanks, and please spread the word!
Thank you to everyone who donated to Con or Bust last week! On Thursday and Friday, we raised $3,623, which will allow Con or Bust to help many more fans of color/non-white fans attend SFF cons in the future.
Thanks again to Arachne Jericho for kicking things off by matching donations to Con or Bust, to all the individual donors, and to everyone who passed the word. Thanks, too, to those who donated to the Carl Brandon Society; among other excellent things, the Carl Brandon Society acts as Con or Bust’s fiscal agent, and so your support of the CBS also benefits Con or Bust.
And even if you missed getting your donation matched, it’s never too late! Besides money, you can donate con memberships (I am especially looking for memberships to this year’s World Fantasy Con) or buy adorable T-shirts with the dinocorn logo. Check out the support page for more information. And thanks again to everyone!
As I posted earlier, the wonderful Arachne Jericho is matching today’s donations to Con or Bust, up to $500. As I write this, today’s donations stand at $413.
Since we’re so close, and since it’s late at least here on the East Coast, this is what I’m going to do:
I will match the next $500 in donations received, for either today or tomorrow (Friday, June 14). There’s two assistance periods left before Con or Bust’s next auction, and these funds will make a big difference in how many fans of color/non-white fans we can help attend SFF cons during that time; let’s keep the momentum going!
You can donate with either a credit card or a PayPal account:
Please spread the word!
Any donations made to Con or Bust today will be matched by the wonderful Arachne Jericho, up to $500. You can donate with either a credit card or a PayPal account:
I encourage you to leave a comment at Arachne’s blog post to encourage others and show support after you’ve donated! Don’t worry if you forget, though, I will send a list of donations tomorrow.
All donations go directly to helping fans of color/non-white fans attend SFF cons. Since the start of 2012, Con or Bust has helped forty fans of color attend SFF cons, many for the very first time. Donations of any amount are very welcome!
(You can also donate to Con or Bust’s fiscal agent, the Carl Brandon Society, or the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship Fund, another project the CBS runs that helps writers of color attend Clarion, and have those donations matched; see Arachne’s post above for more detail.)
Con or Bust still has three donated memberships to Readercon (July 11-14, 2013, Burlington, MA, USA) available free to fans of color/non-white fans. Readercon is “devoted to ‘imaginative literature’ — literary science fiction, fantasy, horror, and the unclassifiable works often called ‘slipstream’”; its guests of honor are Maureen F. McHugh & Patricia A. McKillip, and its memorial guest of honor is Roger Zelazny.
Request a free Readercon membership (or a refund on an existing membership) first-come first-served through June 15 over at this Google Docs form.
