Name a character in Aliette de Bodard’s forthcoming novel THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS

Form 4 Entry 152 Fileupload 1 Form 4 Entry 152 Fileupload 2Item Name and Description: Name a character in Aliette de Bodard’s forthcoming THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS (sequel to THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS, due out April 2017).

Your chance to have someone of your choice feature in fractured post-magical-war Paris! I’ll also send you a signed ARC of the book when they come in.

You will be able to provide the first name of the character, and maybe the last name as well (within reason). I may need to slightly alter it to fit into the setting of the book, though I will do my best to insert it as specified. Your character may not survive for long, though!

Starting Bid: 20$

Other Notes: The book is is being revised now, so you would need to provide the name before the end of June 2016.

Bidding is now open and will close on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. (time zone conversions, countdown) unless bids are received in the last ten minutes (learn more).

Dreams of the Eaten – ARC

Form 4 Entry 140 Fileupload 1Item Name and Description: This is an advance review copy of Dreams of the Eaten, the last book in the Children of the Drought series, slated for release in December. From the back cover:

After trials by fire and thirst, Appaloosa Elim’s quest to bring home the body of the crow prince is finally nearing its end.

But the coffin is missing, the funeral party is hopelessly scattered, and the fishmen are hell-bent on revenge. Worse yet, the pilgrimage has disturbed an ancient power – and the earth is crumbling in its grip.

As the ground shakes and the crows gather, the final reckoning promises to unite the living and the dead in a battle for the land itself. One way or another, blood debts will come due, Elim will face his judgment, and the World That Is will be forever changed.

I’ll be happy to personalize the autograph for the winner. Happy bidding!

Starting Bid: $10

Shipping: I’ll ship for free to the US and Canada, and contribute up to $20 to the cost of shipping to other countries.

Other Notes: Delivery by end of June. Text may have slight variances from final print version.

Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer (advanced reader’s copy)

Form 3 Entry 111 Fileupload 1Item: Too Like the Lightning by Ada Palmer (advanced reader’s copy)

Mycroft Canner is a convict. For his crimes he is required, as is the custom of the 25th century, to wander the world being as useful as he can to all he meets. Carlyle Foster is a sensayer–a spiritual counselor in a world that has outlawed the public practice of religion, but which also knows that the inner lives of humans cannot be wished away.

The world into which Mycroft and Carlyle have been born is as strange to our 21st-century eyes as ours would be to a native of the 1500s. It is a hard-won utopia built on technologically-generated abundance, and also on complex and mandatory systems of labelling all public writing and speech. What seem to us normal gender distinctions are now distinctly taboo in most social situations. And most of the world’s population is affiliated with globe-girdling clans of the like-minded, whose endless economic and cultural competion is carefully managed by central planners of inestimable subtlety. To us it seems like a mad combination of heaven and hell. To them, it seems like normal life.

And in this world, Mycroft and Carlyle have stumbled on the wild card that may destablize the system: the boy Bridger, who can effortlessly make his wishes come true. Who can, it would seem, bring inanimate objects to life…
