Brian Froud’s Fairies advanced reader’s copy with personal drawing inside

Item Name: Brian Froud’s Fairies advanced reader’s copy with personal drawing inside

Description: Brian Froud is a fantasy illustrator and designer best known for conceptual and costume designs on the films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, and for a series of elaborate illustrated books about figures from English folklore, the first of which was 1978’s Fairies, in collaboration with Alan Lee. Fairies went on to sell over a million copies worldwide, and it was adapted as an animated television feature in 1981.

Alan Lee is a fantasy illustrator well known for many jacket paintings and for his work as the art director of Peter Jackson’s film adaption of The Lord of the Rings.

This rare prepublication advance reading copy of Froud and Lee’s Fairies is from a numbered series produced by the publisher, Harry N. Abrams, for the 36th World Science Fiction Convention in 1978. This is copy #30, and it is signed on the first leaf, with an original (and quite detailed) pencil drawing, by Brian Froud.
