FOGCon, Eastercon memberships available

I have one donated membership each available for a fan of color/non-white fan to the following upcoming cons (new registration or refund):

FOGCon, March 8-10, Walnut Creek, California, “a literary-themed San Francisco SF/F con in the tradition of Wiscon and Readercon.” Its theme is Law, Order & Crime; its Honored Guests are Terry Bisson and Susan R. Matthews.

EightSquaredCon, The 2013 Eastercon, March 29-April 1, Bradford, UK. Eastercon is the UK’s annual National Science Fiction Convention. Its Guests of Honour are Walter Jon Williams, Freda Warrington, Anne Sudworth and Edward James.

Because these are still available after the usual request period, how you request them is slightly different: use this form, first-come first-served. If you have general questions about eligibility, or are curious how the process usually works, see the request assistance page.

Rare Paul Edwin Zimmer booklet from Triskell Press

Paul Edwin Zimmer, “Woman of the Elfmounds”: Though there is some age fading, and the bottom corner pages are a tiny bit bent, this 1979 booklet from Triskell Press (Charles de Lint’s press) is in excellent shape. It has an introduction by Evangeline Walton, and two tiny, exquisite inner Celtic knotwork dingbats. Otherwise, clearly typed on Selectric, offset printing. A collector’s item!

Auction Items Sought for Con or Bust!

Con or Bust runs an annual online auction to raise money to help fans of color/non-white fans attend SFF cons. Last year’s auction raised enough money that, together with donations from cons, Con or Bust was able to help 25 fans attend cons 28 times (three people received assistance twice) over the last twelve months. That was Con or Bust’s first full year of helping people go to any SFF con of their choosing (Con or Bust started as WisCon-only), and it was more successful than I’d hoped.

Bidding on this year’s auction starts this Saturday, February 9, but we need many more auction items! The new website makes it super-easy to offer: all you need is an email address, which will not be posted publicly; no more LiveJournal logins required. Please consider offering something, or letting people know that auction items are wanted! Common offers are books, baked goods, character naming rights, jewelry, care packages, knitted goods, blog posts, and critiques, but those aren’t the only possibilities. Art prints? Lunch at a con? Volumes of a comic or manga series that you’re never going to re-read? Audio recordings of a short story or fanfic? Anything that’s legal, practical, and morally and ethically appropriate is welcome.

Learn more about the auction, or head straight to the form to submit auction items. And please link/reblog/retweet this far and wide!
