Pillow Cookies

Item Name & Description: Pillow cookies are a fantastic cookie, where you take a base cookie (like, say, some nomtastic sweet and salty chocolate chip cookies) and wrap the dough around a delicious doughy concoction (like brownies, blondies, white chocolate brownies, or pumpkin brownies). Then: BAKING! You see them all the time at local county fairs — they’re the huuuuge, round cookies with the moist, soft, chocolatey center. These are ginormous cookies — so instead of a full dozen, I normally make 10 at a time. I’m offering to make 10 pillow cookies (combo of your choice), and mail them to you usps priority. NEW THIS YEAR: I’ve found a recipe for srichacha peanut butter cookies that I am DYING to try with a dark chocolate brownie. If the bidding goes over 30, I’ll include a batch of this experiment if you want — or another experimental recipe, since I actually have a queue.

Starting Bid: $15

Notes: If I can’t make something, I’ll work with you for a substitute. I make fantastic cookies! It’ll probably take me a week to put together the ingredients, but I’ll send it USPS priority and let you know when I ship.

Also: I can’t do a multi-type of cookie-mailer. The world would explode with awesome if two types of pillow cookies existed in one box. Also, the flavors might blend.

Custom-made Police Box bag or laptop/iPad case

Item Name & Description: I will make you a blue police box [‘TARDIS’] themed bag of your choice, as below.

The image below is an example of a satchel-like bag with a front pocket and a very stiff front and back. Other bags I am willing to make with the same theme include a softer handbag, a slimline across-the-body pouch (good for walking around cons!), or a sleek-looking laptop bag or iPad case.

If you would like to see pictures of examples of these or other kinds of bags I have made, I can provide these.

I use specialist interfacing to make the bags tough and durable, and they will protect your electronic gadgets well. Happy to be flexible and work with your requirements for size, handle(s), closure and pockets, within certain limits.

(Apologies for the poor quality of the photos.)

If the police box theme doesn’t suit, I can make a custom tailored bag in the fabric of your choice; though if your chosen fabric is significantly more expensive than the plain blue fabric I use for these bags, I would request that you increase your bid to reflect that.

Starting Bid: $30

Notes: Once we have agreed on the specifications, it will take me 2-3 weeks to complete the bag. Will ship anywhere.

Handspun, Handwoven Scarf

Custom Handspun, Handwoven Scarf

I will design and create, in consultation with you, a handspun and handwoven scarf. “Handspun” means that I’ll be laboring for hours at my spinning wheel to make the yarn for your scarf. “Handwoven” means I’ll be weaving it on my rigid heddle loom.

Some notes:

If you’re allergic to wool, this isn’t your item. Handspun wool is much less allergenic than its commercial cousins, but I can’t promise that you won’t have a reaction to it, and wool’s the fiber with which i’m most comfortable (a silk blend is possible, though!).

I don’t prepare or dye my own fiber: I’ll buy roving for this project, but will run it past you first to make sure you like it. Picking out the colors is half the fun!

This is a non-smoking home with three cats. I store fiber carefully and wash all finished pieces, but I can’t promise that there won’t be a cat hair somewhere in the mix.

Images for Susan Palwick's Handspun, Handwoven scarf offer I’m working on a simple loom, but I can produce solid colors (obviously!), stripes, plaids, houndstooth, log-cabin, and more free-form clasped-weft designs. The geometric blue and white scarf to the right is an example of that last technique; it’s also possible to do curves, only there can only be two colors going across any point in the scarf.

If you aren’t sure what these terms mean, ask me; there are lots of images available on the net. If you feel adventurous, you might want me to spin up a multi-colored roving, which can produce a pleasingly irregular striped effect like this pink and green one.

Please note that these two scarves are examples only, and aren’t available in this auction!

Also, because I’m a busy academic, this project will probably take me a few months.

I ask that you pay shipping, if applicable. (I can hand-deliver in northern NV and CA.)

Starting Bid: $100
