Free con memberships available immediately!

Con or Bust currently has available free memberships to five SFF cons, first-come first-served, for fans of color/non-white fans.

  • (new) Readercon, July 10-13, 2014, Burlington, MA, USA. Readercon is an annual conference or convention devoted to “imaginative literature” — literary science fiction, fantasy, horror, and the unclassifiable works often called “slipstream.” Its Guests of Honor are Andrea Hairston & Kit Reed and its Memorial Guest of Honor is Mary Shelley.

    Readercon has donated three memberships to Con or Bust, of which two remain. These must be claimed by July 1, 2014.

  • ConGregate, July 11-13, 2014, Winston-Salem, NC, USA. ConGregate is a new general SF convention being organized by a group of highly experienced convention runners. The featured guests are Larry Correia (Writer GoH), Mark Poole (Artist GoH), Toni Weisskopf (Special Literary Guest), and Jennifer McCollom (Special Media Arts Guest).

    ConGregate has donated two memberships to Con or Bust.

  • Detcon1, July 17-20, 2014, Detroit, MI, USA. Detcon1 is the 2014 North American Science Fiction Convention (NASFiC), which is held in years when the Worldcon is held outside of North America. Detcon1’s Guests of Honor are Steven Barnes (Author), John Picacio (Artist), Bernadette Bosky (Fan), Arthur D. Hlavaty (Fan), Kevin J. Maroney (Fan), Helen Greiner (Scientist), Bill Sutton (Musician), and Brenda Sutton (Musician). (Updated:) Its Special Guests are Nnedi Okorafor (YA Author) and Jon Davis (Video Games Developer).

    Detcon1 has donated three memberships to Con or Bust, which have all been claimed; BUT interested fans should check out its FANtastic Detroit Fund, which provides free memberships to individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend Detcon1, with priority given to Detroit and Wayne County residents.

  • (new) Nine Worlds Convention, 8-10 August 2014, London, England, UK. It’s about gaming, film, cosplay, fandom, literature, science, geek culture, meeting people and having a really big party.

    Nine Worlds has donated ten memberships to Con or Bust, which must be claimed by August 1, 2014, of which nine remain.

  • Loncon 3, August 14-18, 2014, London, England, UK. Loncon is the 2014 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). Its Guests of Honor are Iain M Banks (in Memoriam), John Clute, Malcolm Edwards, Chris Foss, Jeanne Gomoll, Robin Hobb, and Bryan Talbot.

    At present, between donated memberships and matched donations by Loncon, there are (edit) twenty-three attending memberships available.

  • (new) Maneki Neko Con, October 3-5, 2014, Matteson, IL, USA. Maneki Neko Con is an all-ages science fiction, fantasy, and Japanese animation – anime – gaming, comics, and miscellaneous geeky fandom convention in Chicago’s south suburbs. The organizers state that it is run and attended by 90% young people of color.

    Maneki Neko Con has donated two memberships to Con or Bust, which must be claimed by September 21, 2014.

  • GeekGirlCon, October 11-12, 2014, Seattle, WA, USA. GeekGirlCon is the celebration of the female geek. Contributors for 2014 have not been announced yet; here are some highlights from 2013.

    GeekGirlCon has donated six passes to Con or Bust, of which five are still available.

  • Sirens, October 16-19, 2014, Stevenson, WA, USA. Sirens is a conference on women in fantasy literature; its 2014 theme is “hauntings” and its Guests of Honor are Kendare Blake, Rosemary Clement-Moore, and Andrea Hairston.

    Sirens has donated one membership to Con or Bust.

  • World Fantasy Con 2014, November 6-9, 2014, Arlington, VA, USA. The World Fantasy Convention is an annual gathering of professionals, collectors, and others interested in the field of Light and Dark Fantasy art and literature. Its Guests of Honor are Guy Gavriel Kay, Les Edwards, Stuart David Schiff, Lail Finlay, and Jane Yolen.

    WFC 2014 has donated a hotel room for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, as well as two banquet tickets.
